We all know that Super Bowl betting is a big deal. What I didn’t quite realize was just how big a deal it truly is.
According to the American Gaming Association, the commercial casino industry’s top lobbying group, said in advance of the big game that they estimated:
…a record 50.4 million American adults (20%) are expected to bet on Super Bowl LVII, a 61 percent increase from the record set in 2022, according to a new American Gaming Association (AGA) survey. Bettors plan to wager an estimated $16 billion on this year’s championship game, more than double last year’s estimates.
Super Bowl LVII was played in the state of Arizona this year. This is interesting because it’s the first time the Super Bowl has been played in a state in which sports betting is legal. Keep that in mind when you take in this massive statistics.
A company that verifies the location of where gamblers are betting on their cell phones called GeoComply released that it processed at least 100 million sports-betting transactions for this year’s Super Bowl, an increase of over 25% from last year’s Super Bowl.
In the city where the Super Bowl was played, and surrounding municipalities, there were over 100,000 online bets made before and during the game.
Fanduel, one of the major online sports books, was experiencing 50,000 bets per minute being placed at its peak during Sunday’s game.
Every single casino in Las Vegas that has a sports book said it was the highest grossing bet receipts from any Super Bowl in the past.
Next year’s Super Bowl Will actually be played in Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world. Imagine that!
The takeaway here is the reality, and reminder, that sports is a business. A very BIG business.
