We Talkin' about Resort Fees
Unknown flying objects in the sky, unexplained train derailments and chemical spills in Ohio, recent mass shootings, the debt ceiling, continued police violence...and 'we talkin' about resort fees.

Unknown flying objects in the sky, unexplained train derailments and chemical spills in Ohio, recent mass shootings, the debt ceiling, continued police violence...and "we talkin' about resort fees".
Reminds me of the infamous Allen Iverson “we talkin’ about practice” rant from back in 2006.
I am sure many are just as surprised as I was to hear President Biden not only talk about banning “resort fees” during his recent State of the Union address, but to continue seeing him beat that same drum on twitter and other media outlets.

I will be the first to say that I hate “resort fees” — they are no less than incredibly annoying and off-putting. If they seem excessive at a certain property, we just move on. That’s the choice we have as a consumer.
However, banning them will solve nothing as resorts will simply increase nightly rates to cover the costs they can no longer charge “separately”.
A potential quick win for the President optically? For sure. But the fees will simply show up in increased hotel nightly rates. Hardly a win.
This is in no way a politically motivated post - I would call this out if any President were to push for such a thing so publicly. Rather, this is a post in common-sense, and its unfortunate time is not better spent on other pressing issues that this country desperately needs to solve.
Thanks for reading. Until next time.
